Mezzosoprano Jeanne Piland is internationally recognized as one of the best performers of her generation of Mozart and Richard Strauss.
The roles of Octavian in Le chevalier à la rose and of Komponist in “Ariadne à Naxos”, as well as the Mozartian roles of Cherubino, Dorabella, Sesto, Idamante have taken her to the greatest lyrical stages: Scala de Milan, Covent Garden at
London, Opéra de Paris (Bastille) and Opéra-Comique, Munich (where she sang for 25 years), Hamburg (30 years), Dresden, Zurich, Vienna, Berlin, Geneva, Monte-Carlo,
Nice, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, as well as at the Festivals, in particular, from Salzburg to Aix-en-Provence or even Radio-France to Montpellier.
In addition to her Mozart and Straussian roles, she specializes in the French repertoire singing Charlotte, Carmen, Mélisande, Marguerite, Thérèse, Sapho and Didon. Following this last assumption of role, France will name it in 2009 “Chevalier des Arts et Lettres”.
From 1998, she turned to more dramatic roles: Eboli, Santuzza, Adalgisa, and Sara. She now sings the Maréchale in the “Chevalier à la rose” as well as the Wagnerian heroines: Sieglinde, Kundry, Venus and Brangäne.
She appears in a number of recordings, the last one being a DVD of “Roberto Devereux” with Edita Gruberova.
Jeanne Piland lives in Düsseldorf, Germany, where she has forged a 37-year artistic partnership with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. The exceptional longevity of his exemplary career has earned him the honorary title of “Kammersängerin”.
She pursued her international career until 2015 and was a professor at the Robert Schumann Superior Conservatory in Düsseldorf from 2000 to 2015.
